It is said that once Hazrat Junaid Baghdadi left Baghdad with the intention of traveling. Hazrat Sheikh had some disciples with him. The Sheikh asked the disciples, do you know the condition of Bahlul? The people said, "Sir, he is a madman, what will you do if you meet him?" The Sheikh said, "Just find Bahlul, I have something to do with him." The disciples considered it a blessing to obey the Sheikh's order and after a little search, they found Bahlul in a desert and took the Sheikh with them and reached there. When Sheikh went in front of Bahlul, he saw that Bahlul was lying on a bed with a brick under his head.
The Sheikh greeted him, and Bahlul replied and asked, "Who are you?" The Sheikh said, "I am Junaid Baghdadi." "Well, then you are the same disciple who teaches people the words of the elders," said Bahlul. The Sheikh replied, "Yes, I try." Bahlul said, "Well, you must know how to eat." The Sheikh replied, "Why not? I recite Bismillah, eat what is in front of me, make small snacks, chew slowly, and do not look at the snacks of others, and do not neglect the remembrance of Allah while eating. I say Alhamdulillah before every morsel I eat, I wash my hands before eating, and I wash my hands after finishing eating." Hearing this, Bahlul stood up and threw his cloak at the Sheikh and said, "You want to be the leader and guide of mankind, but you do not even know how to eat and drink." Saying this, Bahlul went on his way. The Sheikh's disciples said, "This man is crazy." He said, "Yes, he is crazy, but he cuts off the ears of the intelligent for his own purposes. We should hear the truth from him. Come, follow him. I have a job to do with him." Bahlul reached a desert and sat down at a place. When Sheikh Baghdadi came to him, he asked again, "Who are you?" The Sheikh replied that I am Junaid Baghdadi who does not know how to eat. Bahlul said, "If you are not familiar with the manners of eating, do you know how to talk?" The Sheikh replied, "Yes, I do." Bahlul said, "Then tell me how you talk?" The Sheikh said, "I do everything according to a certain estimate." I do not speak at random or without calculation. I assess the understanding of the listeners and draw the creation of God to the commands of Allah and His Messenger (PBUH). I take care not to say so many things that people get bored with me. I keep in mind the points of internal and external knowledge. In addition to this, the Sheikh also explained other things about the manners of conversation. Bahlul said, "You do not know how to talk even when you are not familiar with the manners of eating." Then he turned his face away from the Sheikh and went to another direction. The disciples could not remain silent. He said, "O Hazrat!" This person is crazy, what else can you expect from him... The Sheikh replied, "Well, I have nothing to do with him, you won't understand this." After that, the Sheikh followed Bahlul again, Bahlul turned around and said, "You don't know how to eat and talk, but you do know how to sleep." The Sheikh said, "Yes, I know. Well, tell me how you sleep." Bahlul said, "When I finish Isha prayer and my duties, I go to the bedroom." Saying this, the Sheikh explained the sleeping etiquette that the elders had taught him.
Bahlul said, "It turns out you don't even know how to sleep." Saying this, Bahlul wanted to leave, but the Sheikh grabbed his waist and said, "Bahlul, I don't know, so for the sake of Allah, teach me." After some time, Bahlul said, O Junaid, all these things you have said are secondary, listen to the real thing from me, Then he said about sleeping, "Likewise, what you said about sleeping is not the real purpose. The real point is that when you sleep, your heart should be free from hatred, grudge, and envy."
