There was a wrestler who had learned all three hundred and sixty tricks of wrestling. Whenever he went to a competition, he would use one of them to win the wrestling match.
This wrestler had many students, he was very fond of one student; so he taught him all the tricks, not just one trick. That student would request his teacher every day to teach him that trick too; but the teacher would refuse. That student, practicing three hundred and sixty-nine tricks, became strong and very skilled in wrestling. Now no one had the courage to compete with him. Because of this, this student became arrogant and proud of himself.
One day, he said this in front of his king that the respect I have for my teacher is due to his old age and greatness; Otherwise, I am stronger than him and equal to him in wrestling.
The king was very angry that a student was insulting his teacher in this way. The king ordered that the student should compete with the teacher. So the day was fixed for the competition and a huge arena was prepared. On the day of the competition, all the king's ministers, courtiers, all the wrestlers of the country and the people were present. The student came to the arena riding a drunken elephant. It seemed as if a mountain came in front of him, and he too would be uprooted from his place. Meanwhile, the teacher also knew that my student was stronger than me; therefore, he had already decided in his heart to use the same trick, which he had not taught the student. So when the competition began, the teacher used the same trick and defeated the student. Everyone was amazed by the teacher and the student was humiliated and ashamed.
The king gave the teacher many rewards and scolded the student for claiming to compete with the teacher; but could not fulfill it. The ignorant student replied: The teacher did not win the competition because of strength; rather, he achieved success because of this bet, which he had not taught me. The teacher said: I had saved this bet for this very day so that if you want to compete, you will not be able to.
Dear everyone! You have seen! How this student was humiliated because of competing with his teacher; therefore, we should never consider ourselves greater than the teacher and should not compete with him; rather, we should always consider him greater, respect him very much, obey him and seek his prayers. This is the mark of good students.
