Returning a deposit

A great scholar of Hadith and Fiqh passed away in Khorasan. He was considered the Imam of Muslims in his time. He was very concerned about the rights of others. He would fulfill everyone's trust. He did not tolerate betraying someone's trust at all; because he knew that betraying a trust and taking something that belonged to someone and not returning it was a great sin.

He himself, while narrating a strange incident, says that once I was in the country of Syria, I needed to write something, I did not have a pen; so I asked a man for a pen;  But after writing, he forgot to return the pen to the man and went to Khorasan with it. When I reached a city called Marwa in Khorasan, far away, I remembered and saw that I had that pen with me. I felt very sorry that I had brought someone else's pen. It was his trust. If I had left like this, it would have been a betrayal of trust. So I thought that no matter how much trouble I had to endure, I should return the pen. Thinking this, I immediately returned to Syria and found the man and returned his pen to him.

Who was that man? He was Abdullah bin Mubarak, who traveled from Marwa in Khorasan to Syria again just to return a pen. How thoughtful he was about paying a small trust!  We should all also ensure that if we have something entrusted to us by someone or if we have borrowed something from someone to use, we should return it immediately after completing the task, and not keep it with us; otherwise, this would be a betrayal of trust and will be severely punished in the Hereafter.
